Building Bridges Across Cultures: Global Peer Collaboration through Fun Games, Leadership Discussions, and Nature Exploration

On Friday, November 22, 2024, the International Office of UIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon hosted a dynamic and inspiring event, combining fun games and a small Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Leadership. This event brought together international students and the Global Engagement Team to strengthen connections and develop essential skills for future global leaders.

The day began with interactive fun games aimed at encouraging teamwork and communication among participants. These activities created a relaxed and engaging atmosphere, fostering collaboration and breaking cultural barriers while building a sense of unity. The highlight of the event was a small focus group discussion (FGD) on the theme of leadership. International students and the Global Engagement Team shared insights on the qualities of effective leaders, the challenges faced in cross-cultural settings, and strategies for nurturing leadership skills. The discussion emphasized the importance of adaptability, empathy, and teamwork in a global context.

During the focus group discussion, each group presented their proposed solutions to various leadership challenges. The Director of the International Office provided insightful feedback, emphasizing that effective leadership begins with leading oneself. He highlighted the importance of self-management as a foundation for personal and collective success. Practical examples, such as managing time wisely and maintaining cleanliness by not littering, were underscored as simple yet impactful habits. By mastering self-management, the Director explained, every individual has the potential to embody leadership in their daily actions, contributing positively to their communities and inspiring others to do the same.

The event wrapped up with a strong sense of empowerment and a deeper understanding of leadership. Through fun games, insightful discussions, and practical examples of self-management, participants learned that leadership begins with leading yourself. By adopting these principles, the students and Global Engagement Team are better equipped to take on challenges and make a positive impact. UIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon International Office remains committed to developing global leadership through initiatives such as this.

On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the Nature Exploration activity was held as part of the Syekh Nurjati Global Collaborative Programs: Community Awareness and Nature Exploration. This event involved the Global Engagement Team along with international students from the Islamic Cyber University of Syekh Nurjati Cirebon. The activity took place at the natural tourism area of Lembah Cilengkrang, renowned for its breathtaking scenery.

The main agenda of this event was a 7-kilometer hiking journey that led participants through valleys, forests, and other natural trails. The final destinations were the Cilengkrang Waterfall and Hot Spring, offering participants an experience of relaxation and an appreciation of the beauty of God’s creation. Throughout the journey, participants not only enjoyed the natural panorama but also engaged in meaningful interactions, strengthening collaboration and sharing cross-cultural stories.

The event proceeded smoothly and with great enthusiasm from all participants. Despite the challenging terrain, the participants' spirits remained high due to the sense of camaraderie fostered throughout the activity. The success of this program was attributed to the support of all parties involved, including the organizing team, who worked diligently to ensure that all participants' needs were met.

In the closing session, Mr. Lala Bumela, as the Head Office of International and Partnership, delivered his remarks. He expressed his gratitude to everyone involved, including the parents who permitted their children to participate in the event. He emphasized the value of time, noting that time is one of the most precious resources that cannot be regained. When we dedicate our time to something, we are essentially giving a part of our lives.

Mr. Lala Bumela also shared his hopes for the future. He aspired to organize similar programs with a complete team and at even more distant locations. The spirit of cross-cultural collaboration displayed during this event is hoped to inspire future activities involving not only international students but also a broader local community.

This event report is created as an official documentation of the successful execution of the Nature Exploration activity. May this event provide lasting benefits and serve as a stepping stone for the creation of more collaborative programs in the future.
