Increased Enthusiasm Among Filipinos: A Surge in Applications for the SN GES Scholarship at IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon

IAIN CirebonThe remarkable enthusiasm among the Filipino community, both Muslim and non-Muslim, to apply for admission to the Syekh Nurjati Global Excellence Scholarship (SN GES) program at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Syekh Nurjati Cirebon has been clearly demonstrated. This was evident during the info session for prospective SN GES scholarship recipients, where approximately 30 Filipino applicants showed great interest in applying and participating in the selection process on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

A facilitator from Mindanao State University (MSU) revealed that 65 students from various regions in the Philippines have expressed their interest through a messenger group. Launched last month, the SN GES scholarship has gained international recognition as one of the premier scholarship programs offered by IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon. To date, six students from Malaysia and Thailand have successfully passed the initial SN GES selection phase.

With such significant interest from the Filipino community, it is highly likely that the remaining quota will be filled by both Muslim and non-Muslim students from the Philippines. This indicates an exceptional reception in the ASEAN region. The scholarship program attracts a diverse range of international applicants, particularly from the Philippines, focusing on academic and non-academic achievements as well as leadership development.

Dr. Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Director of the International Office and Partnership (IOP), expressed her admiration for the enthusiasm shown by the applicants during the info session. She stated that this year’s recruitment for foreign students through the SN GES program is expected to be dominated by the ASEAN region, though there is also the possibility of reaching out to international students from various parts of the world in the future.

With the SN GES scholarship, IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon is making comprehensive preparations to welcome the first batch of international students, who are expected to arrive in Cirebon by late July or early August 2024. This initiative represents a positive step toward strengthening international relations and creating a competitive, inclusive educational environment.
