UIN Siber Cirebon—UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon proudly announces the successful hosting of an international conference featuring Professor Andrew Martin from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia. UNSW is currently ranked 19th in the world, making this a significant achievement for UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon in strengthening its network with a top 20 university globally. This major event was a collaboration between the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training (FITK) and the International Office and Partnership (IOP) of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon.
The conference, held on Monday, June 24, 2024, focused on the theme “Cyber Education and Open Islamic Educational Resources,” with Professor Andrew Martin (Scientia Professor Andrew Martin (unsw.edu.au)) presenting his research synthesis titled “Optimizing Students’ Learning and Motivation in Online Education.” This theme is highly relevant to UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon's focus on the development of cyber education and innovations in online learning methods, which are the hallmarks of 21st-century cyber learning.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Saifuddin, Dean of FITK UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon, stated, “We are very proud to establish cooperation with UNSW, one of the world’s best universities. Professor Andrew Martin’s presence provides new insights and practical strategies that will help us enhance the quality of online education at our campus.” Lala Bumela Sudimantara, Ph.D., Head of the International Office and Partnership, also expressed his excitement about successfully engaging a world-class professor from a top 20 university based in Sydney, Australia. He mentioned that UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon might be the first PTKIN (State Islamic Higher Education Institution) to partner with a top 20 university in 2024.
In his presentation, Professor Andrew Martin explored various strategies for optimizing student learning and motivation in online education. He also shared his latest research findings, highlighting the importance of a holistic approach to supporting students’ academic success. One of the intriguing concepts in his presentation was the “moderator” concept, where three key components—instruction (skill), motivation and engagement (will), and teacher-student relationships (skill & will)—form an inseparable triadic foundation in building agentic online learning engagement.
The conference was attended by hundreds of participants, including lecturers, students, and education practitioners. The attendees were highly enthusiastic and inspired by Professor Andrew Martin’s presentation, which emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in online education.
With the successful implementation of this international conference, UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon remains committed to becoming the leading center for cyber education in Indonesia by continuing to establish partnerships with the world’s leading educational institutions.
